When visiting Thailand one should know this is a Southeast Asian country with a lot of flare. It’s known for tropical beaches, opulent palaces, ancient ruins and interesting temples displaying figures of Buddha.
Bangkok is the capital city which gives the impression of a bustling metropolis with it’s ultramodern cityscape that rise next to some of the most captivating canalside communities. All of this makes for one of the most amazing places on earth to see. Compiled below is a list of 10 things you must do when you visit Thailand.
Temple tours – Bangkok is known for having some of the most fascinating temples in all of Asia.  The temples you definitely want to check out are Wat Traimit. This temple has the famous Golden Buddha. This statues is made of complete solid gold and definitely worth the price of admission, which just happens to be free. Just remember to take your shoes off upon entering so you don’t offend the locals. Another amazing temple is Wat Pho, this is the home of the relaxing Buddha. After taking a look at this imposing figure just relaxing about, some how all of your present troubles will seem to have disappeared. Once outside on the grounds of Wat Pho there are various temples around which house up to 1000 Buddha images, and you can even see the famous Black Buddha.
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market – This is a market that’s actually nestled alongside the river banks of a small village about an hour drive outside of Bangkok. You can leisurely float down the water while shopping for everything from souvenirs, spices, food, and paintings.
Maeklong Railway Market – This might seem like any other market you come across, but what makes this one so you unique is it sits part outdoor and part indoor on a working train track. As the train approaches it’s amazing to see the shop owners in unison roll their awnings back and move items of of the way. Once the train leaves everything is moved back in place as if nothing happened.
Tiger World – Again situated in a small village about an hour outside of Bangkok this is a place where you can actually live out a childhood, and in some cases an adult dream of petting a real live tiger.
Night Markets – During the day Bangkok looks like any other city, people going about their daily lives, going to a from work, commerce happening all around. At night is when the city actually comes alive. In certain parts of the city they have whats called Night Markets. Vendors from all over Thailand come and set up tents for passerbys and tourists to shop for trinkets, accessories etc. It’s actually pretty organized in terms of set up and locations.
Street Food – No trip to Southeast Asia would be complete without trying street food. You can anything from something small to nibble on, or a full course meal from a street vendor.  You will see fish on the grill, live squid, lobster, crab etc and all for your taste pleasure given you have a wide ranging palet.
Nana Plaza – This is a section of town that’s reserved only for the party goers at heart. Be prepared to see any and all kinds of things here. Bangkok is infamous for lady boys, a.k.a men that look like women. So be careful while partying and don’t get to inebriated while visiting this location of town. 😃
Tailor shops – There is practically one on every corner so to speak. If you’re in the market of getting some custom clothes, this is the place to be. You can walk right in and get fitted for suits, dresses or even outwear. And for your convenience they can ship to your hotel or even back to your destination of choice.
Phuket / Patong Beach – You have to visit this location for one of the most exhilarating experiences of Southeast Asia. This part of Thailand is chic meets gritty. You can be in the mall, with nice shops, spas and restaurants and walk outside and be steps away from a Muay Thao boxing match or the boardwalk of Patong with a plethora of clubs, souvenirs stores and sex shops.
Phi Phi Islands – We saved the best for last. Off the coast of Phuket there are a series of 32 smaller islands, some inhabited and some uninhabited. They are called the Phi Phi islands. Some very famous movies have been filmed on some of these islands such as “The Beach” which starred Leo Di Caprio and of course the most famous of all, James Bond’s “The Man With The Golden Gun”. The beaches and the waters in the Phi Phi islands are absolutely amazing, they are affectionately known as the Maldives of Southeast Asia.
